Summary Moiben bagged the top honours in the men's category in the ninth edition of the Mumbai Marathon.
Kenyas Laban Moiben beat his previous best marathon timing of 2:09:44, set in Ottawa in May 2010, to complete the 42-kilometre race in 2:18:48.Speaking at a press conference, Moiben said this was his first marathon in Asia.Yeah, its my first race in India, in Asia, said Moiben.Moiben added that thousands of people had gathered along the streets to cheer on the athletes.People were happy, cheering us, go, go. Its very happy. People in Mumbai were very happy, added Moiben.African athletes dominated the top honours with Fatuma Sado of Ethiopia clocking in at 2:30:20 to take home the womens title.The top winners in the two categories both received prize money of $ 36,000 each.Among the Indians, veteran long distance runner Ram Singh Yadav booked his place for the London Olympics. He completed the race in 2:16:59, bettering the Olympic qualification timing of 2:18.Nearly 38,000 people participated in the annual race including celebrities, industrialists and members of the public.
