V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards, a three-time winner of the New Zealand touring car championships, has died aged 35 after a long battle with cancer, his team said Friday.Richards, a New Zealander who lived in Melbourne, had been fighting a rare and aggressive form of cancer called adrenocortical carcinoma.After winning touring car championships in his homeland, he switched in 2001 to the V8 Supercar series in Australia, races that can draw crowds of 250,000, and three times finished runner-up at the prestigious Bathurst 1000.Brad Jones Racing and the whole V8 Supercar community is in deep mourning with the passing of our friend and teammate, Jason Richards, his team said, adding that he died on Thursday evening.He leaves a wife and two young children.
