Summary Qatar has been targetting sport as a vehicle to showcase of its global aspirations.
In a 21st century spin on pingpong diplomacy, North and South Korea and India and Pakistan will team up in a table tennis exhibition tournament Tuesday aimed at promoting peace between rival nations.The one-day event is sponsored by Monaco-based Peace and Port and also features a Russia-United States doubles team, along with others from China-Qatar and France-Japan.Iran was initially named as a participant in the 10-nation tournament but was withdrawn without immediate explanation.Qatar has been targetting sport as a vehicle to showcase of its global aspirations. It comes on top of the Gulf nations hosting of footballs 2022 World Cup and a new Olympics bid.
