Kris Gemmell beat compatriot Bevan Docherty in the mens race while Andrea Hewitt won the womens race as New Zealanders dominated their home leg of the ITU World Cup triathlon series on Sunday.Gemmell posted his fifth win in a World Cup event when he won the mens elite event a 1.5 kilometre swim, 40 kilometre cycle and 10 kilometre run in 1 hour, 59 minutes, 58 seconds. He was one minute, seven seconds ahead of his Kiwi compatriot Docherty, and Australias Ryan Fisher finished third to claim his first World Cup medal.Earlier Sunday, New Zealands Hewitt surged away on the run to win the womens race in 2 hours, 14 minutes and by more than a minute from Japans Tomoko Sakimoto. Mariko Adachi of Japan was third, 14 seconds behind Sakimoto.Hewitt continued the strong vein of form which saw her win ITU world championship events in Beijing and Yokohama to qualify for the London Olympics and rise to second place on world standings.She was among the leading bunch after the swim on a chilly Waitemata Harbour and stayed close to the leaders through the hilly 40km cycle course. Hewitt swept to the lead after the second transition and ran away from her rivals on the 10km run around downtown Auckland.Gemmell and Docherty were also prominent throughout the swim and cycle stages of the mens race then cleared out from their opponents on the running course which was flanked by thousands of spectators.
