Summary Usain Bolt clocked quickest time in the first round of the 100m heats at the world championships.

Usain Bolt signalled that reports of his vulnerability might be exaggerated when he stormed to the quickest time in the first round of the 100 metres heats on the opening day of the 13th World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea. The double world and Olympic sprint champion served up by far the most dominant victory in a time of 10.10 seconds while clearly easing up over the last 10 metres.Kenyan women athletes completed a clean sweep of both of the days titles as they took the 10,000 metres and the marathon.Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya won gold in the 10,000 metres with compatriots Sally Kipyego taking silver and Linet Masai the bronze.Another Kenyan, Priscah Cherono, finished fourth. Cheruiyot won in a time of 30:48.98, sprinting home with Kipyego unable to match her finishing speed. It was the second podium sweep of the day for Kenya, as 31-year-old policewoman Edna Kiplagat survived a late fall to win the marathon held through the streets of Daegu earlier in the day.Olympic 400 metres champion Christine Ohuruogus attempt to regain the world title ended in tears on Saturday when she was disqualified for making a false start in her heat. The 27-year-old Briton looked stunned, standing with her hands on her hips under the floodlights of Daegus 53,000-seater stadium before a marshal led her off the track.Ohuruogu was 400 metres world champion in Osaka in 2007 before sprinting to Olympic gold in Beijing the following year.In the decathlon, Ashton Eaton of the United States stormed into the lead at the halfway stage with a superb time of 46.99 seconds in the 400 metres. His run gave him a total of 4,446 points, 53 ahead of compatriot Trey Hardee.
