Slater cruises to victory at US Open Surfing Championship

Mens number one and surfing legend Kelly Slater won his first US Open title since 1996, while 20-year-old Sally Fitzgibbons continued her fantastic year by claiming the womens title at Huntington Beach on Sunday.Home favourite Slater has been ASP World Tour Champion a record 10 times and at Huntington put on an astonishing display in the final against the 27th ranked Australian Yadin Nicol.Slater spoke of his relief on eventually reclaiming his US Open title after edging close to a win on the past two occasions.It feels good I guess I never thought Id win the US Open again, you know. I had a fifth two years ago, a third last year so I guess Ive gone one round better again.
