HUNZA (Dunya News) –WAPDA team emerged victorious in the first and second stage of ‘Tour de Khunjerab 2019’ cycle race as 138 participants raced 67 kms from Gilgit to Rakaposhi base camp in the first stage and 35 kms in the second stage.
The second stage of Tour de Khunjerab 2019, which is organized by Gilgit-Baltistan government and the Pakistan Cycling Federation, started on Friday from Rakaposhi base camp to Karimabad. Second stage is about time trial which will be 35 kilometers long.
According to the Dunya News, Najeebullah covered the distance of 35 kms in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 47 seconds and came first in the second stage as well bringing WAPDA to spotlight as a vital team in the competition. Abdul Razzaq of Sui Gas secured second position in the second stage whereas the Balochi cyclist Hunzallah came third.
Despite being the shorter distance than the first stage, it was the toughest stage of the event as last seven kilometers of the race were on highlands with dangerous paths which all cyclists covered with courage and bravery.
77 out of 83 participants completed the race whereas others were disqualified. Najeebullah from WAPDA and completed the race in two hours, one minute and 34 seconds and secured first position, Abdullah Khan from Pakistan Army finished second and completed the race in two hours, one minute and 33 seconds. Viran Ramesh from Sri Lanka completed the race in two hours, two minutes and 34 seconds and finished third in the first stage of the event.
