Summary Muhammad Ahansal of Morocco and France's Laurence Klein won the 2nd stage of the Marathon des Sables
Although the 38km route was to take them through a less tricky terrain than on Sunday, it was no easy ride, as the wind made racing difficult for the competitors. The first 11km were run into a strong wind which slowed everybody down. After the first check point, at 11.3 km, the wind became an ally, coming from behind the runners.Leading the race at this stage with overall leader Ahansal were his fellow countrymen Mustapha Ait Amar and Rachid El Morabity alongside Salameh Al Aqra of Jordan. The four were still together at the second stage checkpoint but Ahansal and Al Aqra pulled clear in the last few kilometres, setting up a sprint finish which the Moroccan won to take the stage by just four seconds. On the womens side, yesterdays ranking was reversed with Klein winning the stage nearly four minutes ahead of Emma Rocca of Spain to take over the lead of the general ranking.Another 38km will take the competitors from Jebel El Mraier to the Rheris Wadi today.
