Summary Nauman Aftab beat Ghouse Faisal 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of an ITF Juniors event in Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU (Dunya News) - Sixteen-year-old tennis prodigy, Muhammad Nauman Aftab from Karachi, beat Canadian Ghouse Faisal on Tuesday at an ITF Juniors event held here in the Nepalese capital. The Pakistani player thrashed his opponent 6-0, 6-0 and proceeded to the second round of the tournament without giving away a single game.

Aftab, who is the only Pakistani participating in the tournament, had to play two qualifying rounds in order to make it to the main draw of the event, where he proved his mettle by "double-bageling" his opponent.

Nauman is currently being trained by former Davis Cupper and current top-10 player, Yasir Khan, who has been training in the United States to improve his own performance. Khan says he has seen a marked improvement in his game after the months he spent training and participating in tournaments in the US last year. He was one of only a handful of Pakistani players to win matches in the recently held ITF Futures events in Islamabad, which saw him earn an ATP point. He is currently ranked 1592 in the world.

Khan credits his training in the US as well as his dedication - he missed the birth of his first child in order to participate in the ITF Futures events in Islamabad in December last year - for the recent improvement in his performance, and vows to help others, like Nauman, who seek to make a mark in international tennis, benefit from the training he has received.

Aftab plays top-seeded Naithaolin Calvin Golmei of India next, on Wednesday afternoon.
