NEW YORK (AFP) - Canadian poster girl Eugenie Bouchard was knocked out of the US Open on Monday, losing 7-6 (7/2), 6-4 to Russia's Ekaterina Makarova.
Wimbledon runner-up Bouchard, the seventh seed, needed a lengthy medical timeout at 2-3 down in the second set to have her blood pressure taken as she struggled in temperatures of plus-30 degrees (+85F) and crushing humidity.
Makarova reached her second successive US Open quarter-final where she will face either two-time runner-up Victoria Azarenka or Serbian qualifier Aleksandra Krunic.
