BERLIN (AFP) - Germany s Tommy Haas has brought the curtain down on his season because of a shoulder injury.
The 36-year-old, ranked 20th in the world and his country s number one, told newspapers Monday he would undergo an operation on his right shoulder in New York on Tuesday.
Haas said the injury had come as a shock.
"At first, I didn t want to take it seriously. Now I can t do it any differently," Haas said, expressing hope he might return to action in 2015.
"I still don t know if that will be possible.
"We ll only be able to decide in a few months time if it s still possible to return but before that there a few months of dirty work to accomplish, especially as it s a big weight on the mind.
"I m still intent on coming back, I know what now awaits me and I ll face up to this new challenge."
Haas had to withdraw from Roland Garros in the first round, then going on to pull out of the ATP event in Halle.
