Summary Brazil's women's judo team are doing their skills at a training centre in Rio.

Theyre some of Brazils top athletes, destined for the world stage at Londons Olympics this summer. But despite the high hopes of Brazils womens judo team, they are firmly grounded in the heart of Rios poverty, sharpening their moves at their training centre in the violent Rocinha slum. The team is training in the facilities of Brazils former Olympic judo medalist, Flavio Canto, who established an NGO in the favela aimed at helping children through judo.Canto won a bronze medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics and recently became the assistant coach of the team.He said the teams intense training has paid off. Most of them are going to the Olympics as favourites. We have everything to to get the best results ever in the Brazilianjudo. For me, I expect them to use this little time that we still have before the Olympics to learn how to improve their floor techniques, and to make them feel more comfortable. That is my biggest goal, he said during a recent training session. In addition to the physical training, Canto said he shares his Olympic experience with the team and encourages sharp mental focus.Maria de Lurdes Portela is one of the top competitors. She was living in Brasilia, but moved to Rio to train with Canto. We will go to England, but we will stay in a city close to London. We are going with a big team, so that we can stay focused and not get distracted with the many London attractions. Our goal is to think only about the Olympics until the time arrives, said Portela. Her teammate, Erika Miranda, said the group is hoping for medals. We are filled with good vibes and that will enhance our competition. This will makes us more confident and calm, always aiming at the medals, she said. The 2012 Olympics start on July 27 in London.
