Nataliya Dobrynska of Ukraine set a world indoor pentathlon record of 5,013 points on her way to winning the gold medal at the world indoor championships in Istanbul.The Olympic heptathlon champion beat Russian athlete Irina Belovas mark of 4,991 points set in 1992 to finish ahead of Britains Jessica Ennis.Ryan Whiting of the U.S. won the mens shot put, throwing 22.00 metres with his fifth attempt to edge out Germanys David Storl.Australias Sally Pearson, favourite for the womens 60 metres hurdles title, came through her heat in a time of 7.84 seconds to go through to the semi-finals.Womens world champion high jumper Anna Chicherova of Russia led the way in the womens high jump, clearing 1.95 metres to book her place in the final.Meseret Defar of Ethiopia coasted through her womens 3000 metres heat in 9 minutes 11.76 seconds to stay on course to become the first woman to win a fifth successive world indoor title.
