Summary Nawaz Sharif expressed that more resources will be directed towards education

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while inaugurating the Montessori section at a public school in Islamabad on Friday called for an improvement in security measures for all educational institutions throughout the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inquired about the current security measures adopted by educational institutions after the recent attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda that claimed 21 lives including students and faculty.
The premier further added that it was not sufficient to raise the height of walls and put barbed wires on them, instead the overall security needed to be improved. Furthermore, PM Nawaz Sharif expressed that more resources will be directed towards education and health facilities for the citizens to benefit from.
On the other hand, Sindh government also decided to advance security to educational institutions by deploying Police and Rangers in areas where schools are located, improving intelligence work and patrolling along the borders of Sindh-Balochistan and Sindh-Punjab.
“We have to work out a concrete plan to protect educational institutions whether they are operating in public or private sector,” Qaim Ali Shah said.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House. DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, the Secretary Home, Comissioner Karachi, Additional IGP Sindh, Additional IGP Karachi Mushtaq Maher, representatives of different agencies and others attended the meeting.
Earlier last month, Ministry of Interior ordered the Police and Rangers to increase security to all educational institutions across the country, following the attack carried out on Bacha Khan Univeristy Charsadda.
A three level security plan following the approval of Senior Superintendant of Police Operations Sajid Kiani had been issued for all educational institutes.
High-level security will be provided to schools under Security Forces, mid-level security to missionary schools and normal security in government and private schools. Furthermore, it has also been directed to elevate the walls and put barbed wires on them, specifically in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
At the same time, Station House Officers (SHOs) were ordered to patrol around educational institutes at the time of their opening and closing. In addition, they were also asked to deploy additional strength of Policemen. The SSP also directed for a crackdown on professional alms seekers keeping in view the security perspective.
Charsadda district nazim Fahad Riaz Khan asked the police to ensure foolproof security at schools and universities in the district. According to the district nazim, such attacks should be prevented at all costs and the police should ensure that security arrangements are made at all educational institutes.
“All private and government schools must install CCTV cameras, barbed wire on boundary walls, metal detectors and deploy security guards,” he added.
On the other hand, Bacha Khan University (BKU) administration asked for the services of the Frontier Corps (FC) in order to provide superior security at the campus. At the same time, as much as eight elite force personnel have been deployed to provide permanent duties at the premises.
