Summary Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital has decided to expand network of free eye camps at union council level.
It aims at minimizing the challenge of blindness under its outreach eye care program.The announcement was made at a conference held to mark the first death anniversary of great humanitarian icon and founding president of Al-Shifa Trust EyeHospitals Lt Gen (r) Jahan Dad Khan here on Monday.Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital President Lt Gen (r) Hamid Javed said that though Jahan Dad Khan left all of us one year aback but his selfless work for the people will keep him alive as he left a trail of shine in serving the humanity.He said Al-Shifa based on the vision of Gen Jahan Dad Khan has decided to expand the network of free eye camps at union council level under the community outreach program.He said that Al-Shifa Trust has treated millions of patients since its establishment at its four state of the art hospitals located in Sukkur, Kohat, Muzaffarabad and Rawalpindi.He said that beside this more than 1,50,000 patients at 500 free eye camps are treated every year in the underserved areas which make it one of the largest outreach eye care program in the country.He said that blindness has become a major challenge in the country, especially in the underserved areas where non-availability of proper treatment has left many blind.He said that the Trust would double the number of free eye camps to cope with the challenge and provide treatment to the people at their threshold.Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed speaking on the occasion said Gen. Jahan Dad Khan was such a glory that he picked off fallen eyes of the blind and roamed the world to rescue these with light.He went door to door, far and wide and never ever got tired of collecting the means of the providinghope to eye-less. He was a merchant of light. No door was ever closed to his journey for the blind.Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Vice President Saeed Ahmad Qureshi, renowned columnist Baig Raj and Dr Hasan also paid rich tribute to Gen Jahan Dad Khan for his service to the humanity.A floral wreath was also laid on the grave of Jahan Dad khan by the staff members of the Al-Shifa Trust besides a documentary highlighting the services of the founding president was screened.The trust management also announced Annual Jahandad Khan Gold Medal for doctors showing outstanding performance in the field of Ophthalmology.The anniversary was attended by member board of trustees, donors, philanthropists and friends of Al-Shifa Trust.
