 Patients suffer as doctors observe strike

Summary Doctors in KP went on a 3-day strike Monday against murder of their colleague Dr. Syed Jamal Shah.

Cardiologist Jamal’s dead body was found in Jamrud, a remote area of Khyber Agency, two months after he was kidnapped from his home in Peshawar. Police said the doctor was killed and kidnapped by a militant group.A number of patients who visited OPD and wards of Khyber Teaching Hospital, Hayatabad Medical Complex and Lady Reading Hospital and those came from far-flung areas of the province, returned home disappointed, thanks to the strike.Also, outpatient activities at the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad came to a standstill due to doctors’ boycott against the murder. However, emergency wards in the hospitals remained opened.Provincial Doctors’ Association demanded of the authorities to arrest the culprits and provide protection to the doctors.
