Syed Ali Geelani, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said India has no moral right to celebrate Independence Day unless it ends its forced military occupation over Jammu and Kashmir. The day should be observed as black day and we must remember our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Kashmir, he said.The veteran Hurriyet leader said that 64 years had passed since India got freedom but Kashmiris still craved to get it. Kashmiris continue to be subjected as slaves by India despite claiming to be the largest democratic country in the world, he stated.Syed Ali Geelani, while terming Kashmir as a police state, pointed out that scorers of innocent youth had been put behind the bars under draconian laws and people were being sliced to death like carrots and radishes.He strongly denounced the invoking of draconian law, Public Safety Act, against Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League leader Masarrat Aalam Butt and appealed to the Amnesty International to use its good offices to pressurise India to release all the Kashmiri political detainees languishing in jails.Paying rich tributes to APHC leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz on his third martyrdom anniversary, he said: These sacrifices wont go waste and will lead us to achieve our goal.
