Shahnaz, a resident of a village near Chiniot and a mother of two children, had disputes with her husband, Iqbal, and she contacted a lawyer to get separation. Knowing her intentions, Iqbal accused his wife of committing adultery and took the matter to the local panchayat.The 10-member panchayat, headed by Atta Muhammad, ruled to cut the both hands and feet of Shahnaz.Shahnaz was ripped in front of the villagers who left her in a half dead condition.Shahnaz’s brother, Noor Muhammad, and sister took her to hospital where she was said to be in a critical condition.Noor Muhammad had informed the police about the incident few hours before it happened but the police did not turn up.
