Summary The duration of load shedding in DI Khan reached 18 hours with decrease in electricity generation.
According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) officials, the current production of electricity was 14,233 megawatts against a demand of 17,993 megawatts. The officials informed that only 4,997 megawatts electricity is being generated through hydel power projects as water flow for agricultural purposes was decreased by Indus River System Authority (IRSA).The increase in shortfall has resulted in surge in load shedding timings in different parts of the country. In cities, power shutdown timings reached 7 hours while this duration is 10 hours in rural areas.Meanwhile, residents of Dera Ismail Khan are suffering from 18 hours of load shedding while this duration is more than 18 hours in its suburbs. The residents were of the view that electricity remained shut down for many hours on the pretext of unnecessary repair work.
