Summary The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has to pay more than Rs 900 million to 200 contractors.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) made a decision not pay the contractors this month because the institution was going through a financial crunch. The KWSB also has an outstanding Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) bill of Rs 10 billion.On the other hand, Pakistan Steel Mills, several federal and provincial institutions and various other departments owe the KWSB a total of Rs 11 billion.Due to the non-payment by the KWSB to the contractors, various development projects remains suspended the city. The KWSB is also experiencing problems in paying salaries to the employees.
