Bandarwall residents reject eviction
Updated on

Summary Hundreds of residents of Bandarwall area of Sukkur protested against their eviction from the area.

After the destructive floods of 2010, the government had asked the people living along with the banks of Indus River to evict the area so that the government could start the repair work at the embankment. Rejecting the government’s orders, the locals staged a rally and a sit-in against the eviction orders. The protesters said that they would never leave the settlement. They said that the government wanted the eviction to oblige the builder mafia. The issue of alternative settlement for the residents of Bandarwall has been politicised for 10 years, they said.
