Summary The Supreme Court has rejected ECs explanation for delay in submission of voters list.
The Chief Justice has said updating voters’ lists on annual basis is the legal requirement of the Election Commission, and the EC has failed to fulfill it.While the hearing of voters list’s case in a 3-member bench headed by the chief justice, Election Commission submitted a written explanation. EC informed the court the members of EC were not aware of the July 4th SC order. The apex court rejected this explanation by the Election Commission.The court said it seemed as if the EC was kept in dark in this regard and directed to inform the court whether there was a deliberate delay in the preparation of lists or not.
