KARACHI (Dunya News) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar has called on the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to clarify its position on imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in KP, citing ‘differences’ between President Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Sattar said the chief minister had expressed opposition to governor’s rule, while the president’s actions had created a different impression. He urged the PPP to adopt a consistent position and publicly explain any differences between the president’s stance and that of the provincial government.
Sattar said the president had signed orders related to governor’s rule and emergency in KP, stressing that steps should be taken to ensure that the situation in Sindh did not deteriorate to the point where such measures became necessary.
Addressing Murad Ali Shah, the MQM-P leader advised the chief minister to exercise caution and maintain clarity in his statements, warning that the PPP could not continue with what he described as a dual policy on the issue.
Commenting on security concerns, Sattar warned that a potential operation against terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could prompt militants to flee to Karachi, where, he claimed, sleeper cells were also present.
He called for close monitoring of alleged links between terrorism and politics in Karachi and urged authorities to dismantle terrorist sleeper cells and centres of extremism across Sindh. He also asked the Sindh chief minister to prepare for potential security challenges, noting that extremist networks could pose a threat in the province.
Sattar concluded by praying for the success and safety of Pakistan’s armed forces in their operations against elements hostile to the country.
