Summary By elections for 6 National Assembly seats and 4 provincial assemblies seats will be held on Feb 25.
Polling will continue whole the day in Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Vehari and Kasur for the NA seats and in Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan, Attock and Mianwali for PA seats.All the preparations are made perfect and relevant material is provided over the constituencies. Contestants are trying to lead the game through political meetings. Security is deployed in the region for the secure process of polling.The National Assembly seats were vacated after resignation of five MNAs who later joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are main contenders in most of the constituencies.Seven candidates are contesting in NA-9 Mardan-I while the main contenders are Himayatullah, who is joint candidate of PPP and ANP, and Shuja-ul-Mulk of JUI-F. This seat was vacated by Khawaja Muhammad Hoti who has joined PTI.Sardar Sarwar Dogar of PPP and 15 independent candidates are contesting in NA-140 Kasur-III which was vacated by Sardar Asif Ahmad Ali who joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The number of votes in this constituency is 2, 30, 605.There are 19 candidates in NA-148 Multan-I but the real competition is between Abdul Ghaffar Dogar of PML-N and PM Gilani’s son, Musa Gilani of PPP. Total numbers of votes in this constituency is 3, 38000 and it was vacated by Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi who resigned and joined PTI.Nine candidates are in the arena in NA-149 Multan-II but the main contestants are Tariq Rashid of PML-N and Liquat Dogar of PPP. Total number of votes in this constituency is 4, 0 2,000 and this was vacated after resignation of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi.Eight candidates are contesting in NA-168 Vehari-II, including Bilal Akbar Bhatti of PML-N and Nitasha Daultana of PPP and six independent candidates. Total number of votes in this constituency is 2, 58000. This seat was vacated after the tragic death of PPP’s MNA Azeem Daultana in a road accident.Makhdoom Syed Mustafa Mehmood of Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) is contesting against 9 independent candidates in NA-195 Rahimyar Khan-IV. He seems to win due to support of both PPP and PML-N. Total number of votes in this constituency is 2, 70,000.Meanwhile, by-election is also being held in four provincial constituencies including two in Punjab and two others in Sindh.Eight candidates are contesting in PP-18 Attock-IV but main contenders are Malik Azam Khaiba of PML-N, Malik Sameen Khan of PPP and independent candidate Malik Amanat Ali Khan. Total number of votes in this constituency is 1, 95000.Five candidates are competing in PP-44 Mianwali-II but the main contenders are Adil Abdullah Rokhri of PML-N, Sardar Bahadur Khan of PPP and independent candidate Malik Tariq Mehmood Kand. This seat was vacated after the death of Amir Hayat Khan Rokhri.The Sindh Assembly vacant seats include PS-53 Tando Muhammad Khan-cum-Hyderabad and PS-57 Badin-I (Old Badin-III).Eleven candidates are contesting in PS-53 Tando Muhammad Khan-cum-Hyderabad but the real challengers are Syeda Wahida Shah (widow of Syed Mohsin Shah) of PPP and independent candidate Mir Mushtaq Talpur. This seat was vacated after the death of MPA of PPP Syed Mohsin Shah.Former Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza’s son, Hasnain Mirza is contesting against Syed Ali Bukhsh shah alias Pappu Shah in PS-57 Badin-I (Old Badin-III). Pappu Shah is husband of former provincial minister Syeda Yasmeen Shah and PML (Likeminded) is backing him in the by-election.
