LAHORE (Muhammad Hasan Raza) - The US Consulate General in Lahore hosted a “Freedom 250” reception to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence and highlight the longstanding partnership between the United States and Pakistan.
Held under the theme “Let Freedom Ring,” the event brought together Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, government officials, elected representatives, business leaders, educators, journalists, civic figures and members of the diplomatic corps.

US Consul General Stetson Sanders said the bilateral relationship was being shaped by innovation, creativity, connectivity and opportunity.
He highlighted US economic engagement in Pakistan, including investment in technology and local talent, citing a Google Chromebook assembly line in Haripur and the achievements of Pakistani technology pioneer Arfa Karim.

Sanders also pointed to Sialkot’s production of FIFA World Cup footballs as an example of longstanding commercial links between the two countries.
He said bilateral trade reached $8.5 billion in 2025, describing economic ties as a foundation for further cooperation and expanded market access.
“Punjab has some of the finest universities in Pakistan, full of ambitious, optimistic young people,” Sanders said, expressing confidence in the future of bilateral relations.
The reception also featured life-size replicas of Philadelphia’s Liberty Bell, decorated by Pakistani artists through the US Consulate’s Lincoln Corner network.
Freedom 250 is a year-long initiative by US missions worldwide marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and highlighting American values and international partnerships.
