KARACHI (Dunya News) - Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has questioned former mayor Mustafa Kamal’s claim that Rs300 billion was spent on development and uplift projects in the city during his tenure.
Speaking on the matter, Murtaza Wahab said he could not find any record of Rs300 billion being allocated or spent in the available budget documents.
He challenged Mustafa Kamal to clarify when the amount was approved by the city council and identify the projects where the money was spent.
Wahab said that even if the federal government’s budget were included in the calculation, the total would still not reach Rs300 billion.
The Karachi mayor also called for better performance by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), pointing out that many people driving expensive and large vehicles in Karachi do not pay taxes.
Wahab stressed the need for stronger tax collection and greater accountability over public funds, saying that financial records should clearly show how and where development money is being spent.
