Summary The Supreme Court has rejected a petition against the appearance of Attorney General as prosecution.
A seven-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk resumed the hearing of the Prime Minister Gilani contempt case on Wednesday.The SC rejected the plea against Attorney General (AG) Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq as prosecutor of the prime minister in contempt case.During his arguments, petitioner Petitioner Shahid Orakzai took the stand that the AG is subordinate to the prime minister that is why he cannot act as his prosecutor.Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk remarked that the prime minister did not object to his own trial.Justice Asif Khosa remarked that the court reserves the right to change the prosecutor in case he is unable to carry out his tasks properly.Later, the Supreme Court dismissed the plea but maintained the office objections.
