LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab authorities have stepped up preparations to deal with possible heavy rains, urban flooding and floods, placing all relevant departments on high alert following directions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa visited the Emergency Services Academy and headquarters on Thursday and reviewed arrangements for responding to any emergency. Emergency Services Department Secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer briefed him on the rescue preparations and response capacity.
The officials reviewed disaster management plans and measures to improve emergency response. The availability of water rescue boats, life jackets, dewatering pumps, rescue vehicles and other essential equipment was also assessed.
The meeting also focused on improving coordination between the PDMA and Rescue 1122. Officials agreed to strengthen data sharing and further improve the joint control room system to ensure a quicker response during emergencies.
Mr Jappa said advance alerts had been issued to all districts regarding possible rains and urban flooding. He said the authorities were working to minimise response time and ensure timely assistance to people in affected areas.

The PDMA chief said public safety was the government’s top priority and directed all relevant departments to keep their personnel and machinery fully prepared to deal with any emergency.
