LAHORE/ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A fresh spell of monsoon rains swept across several cities in Pakistan on Tuesday, bringing pleasant weather to Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other areas, while power supply was disrupted in several localities after electricity feeders tripped.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Lahore recorded 15.2mm of rainfall at Lakshmi Chowk, 0.8mm at Upper Mall, 7.8mm at Mughalpura, 4.4mm at Tajpura, 13.2mm at Chowk Nakhuda, 19.6mm at Pani Wala Talab, 1mm at Farrukhabad and 0.2mm at Saggian.
The Met Office said Lahore's current temperature was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius, with the minimum expected at 27°C and the maximum likely to reach 33°C.
Intermittent rainfall is expected in Lahore and other districts of Punjab until August 5. Authorities have also warned that continued rainfall could further increase water levels in rivers.
Rain was also reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Wazirabad, Phalia, Muridke, Gujranwala, Khanpur and Haripur, bringing relief from the heat as dark clouds covered the skies.
The PMD has warned of possible urban flooding in Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to the latest spell of monsoon rains. It also cautioned about the risk of flash floods and landslides in hilly areas, while forecasting more monsoon rainfall in Sindh between July 31 and August 2.
