(Dunya News) - Monsoon rains have increased water levels in Punjab’s rivers, with low-level flooding reported at Tarbela, Kalabagh and Chashma along the Indus River, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Friday.
According to a PDMA Punjab spokesperson, water flows remained largely stable over the past 24 hours. The flow at Tarbela was recorded at 342,000 cusecs, while Kalabagh recorded 309,000 cusecs and Chashma 293,000 cusecs.
The situation in the Chenab River, meanwhile, has improved from high-level to medium-level flooding, with medium-level flooding reported at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad. Water flows at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad stood at 208,000, 165,000 and 190,000 cusecs, respectively.
The PDMA said water flows in the Jhelum and Sutlej rivers remained normal. The Ravi River recorded a flow of 83,000 cusecs at the Balloki point, while water levels at Jassar, Shahdara and Head Sidhani remained within normal limits.
Medium-level flooding was also reported in Nullah Basantar in Narowal, while low-level flooding was recorded at Nullah One near the Ara Cantt Bridge. Medium-level flooding was also reported at Nullah One in Wazirabad.
PDMA Director General Umar Abbas Mela said rainfall had stopped in the upper catchment areas of the Chenab River, resulting in stable water flows over the past 24 hours.
