LAHORE (Duna News) – Rising water levels in Nullah Dek and the Chenab and Jhelum rivers have led to flood conditions at several locations across Punjab, according to official sources.
Authorities said a significant increase in water flow has been recorded in various rivers and seasonal streams across the province, resulting in low-level flooding at some locations and a moderate flood situation in parts of the Jhelum River.
At Kangra Bridge on Nullah Dek, a tributary linked to the Ravi River system, water discharge reached 10,193 cusecs, placing the area under a low flood category.
Meanwhile, water levels also increased at Head Marala on the Chenab River, where inflows were recorded at 110,355 cusecs, while outflows measured 88,082 cusecs. Officials said the river remains in the low flood category at the site.
A more serious situation was reported at Mangla on the Jhelum River, where inflows climbed to 133,000 cusecs, resulting in a moderate flood level. Authorities said water releases from the reservoir are continuing in line with operational requirements.
Provincial authorities are closely monitoring river conditions as monsoon rains continue to affect water flows across the region. Emergency response agencies have also been placed on alert to respond to any deterioration in the situation.
Residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain vigilant, follow official instructions and take precautionary measures as water levels may continue to fluctuate depending on rainfall in the river catchment areas.
