Summary PDMA warns of glacial lake outburst floods, flash floods and landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid rising temperatures and rain.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) alert for the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of increased risks due to rising temperatures and heavy rainfall forecast for the coming week.

According to the PDMA, the combination of intense heat and expected rainfall could accelerate glacier melting, increasing the likelihood of glacial lake outburst floods, flash floods and landslides.

The authority has directed the district administrations of Upper and Lower Chitral, Swat, Bahrain, Upper Dir, Kohistan and Mansehra to implement precautionary measures, remain on high alert in vulnerable glacial areas and ensure continuous monitoring of the situation.

The PDMA also instructed rescue agencies to keep emergency personnel and machinery on standby and ensure timely evacuation of residents from high-risk areas whenever necessary.

Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from rivers, streams and glacial regions. The public has also been urged to avoid approaching fast-flowing water and seasonal streams during periods of heavy rainfall.
