LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) – A Lahore anti-corruption court on Wednesday heard the case regarding alleged illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly involving former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parez Elahi and other accused.

The court sought arguments on a plea filed by co-accused Mukhtar Ranjha seeking acquittal in the case.

Anti-Corruption Court Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich presided over the hearing. Lawyers representing former chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and his former principal secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti submitted applications seeking exemption from personal appearance for one day.

The defense informed the court that medical reports had been submitted, stating that both individuals were unwell and had been advised by doctors to rest. The court was also told that Muhammad Khan Bhatti was suffering from back pain.

The court accepted the one-day exemption requests of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Muhammad Khan Bhatti and adjourned the hearing until June 17.

Anti-corruption authorities have already submitted the challan (charge sheet) in the case.
