KARACHI (Duny News) - Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said on Wednesday that smuggling has decreased by 80% during the current year, praising the role of the Pakistan Coast Guards in curbing narcotics trafficking and illegal transportation through sea routes.
Talal Chaudhry attended the passing-out parade ceremony of Pakistan Coast Guards recruits, where Director General Pakistan Coast Guards Major General Javad Riaz welcomed the chief guest.
During the ceremony, the recruits of the Pakistan Coast Guards presented a salute to the minister.
Addressing the event, Talal Chaudhry said that 23 personnel of the Pakistan Coast Guards had sacrificed their lives to help maintain peace along Pakistan’s coastline. He added that the coastal situation had significantly improved due to the force’s efforts and described the Pakistan Coast Guards as a highly professional and efficient force.
He further stated that the role of the Coast Guards in preventing drug smuggling and illegal maritime transportation has always been commendable, adding that several welfare projects for Pakistan Coast Guards personnel are currently underway.
The minister also said that preventing illegal migration has remained a hallmark of the Pakistan Coast Guards, while the force is also playing an important role in the protection of marine life.
