Summary Top civil and military leadership attended a special ceremony at the Pakistan Monument to commemorate one year of the country’s declared victory in “Marka-e-Haq”.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership gathered at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad on Sunday for a special ceremony commemorating the first anniversary of the country’s declared victory in “Marka-e-Haq”, the term used by the state for the recent conflict with India.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Baber Sidhu were also present alongside senior political leaders, federal ministers, foreign diplomats and high-ranking civil and military officials.
Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and personalities from different walks of life also joined the commemorative event held at one of Islamabad’s most prominent national landmarks.
According to official accounts, the conflict between Pakistan and India, beginning with the Pahalgam attack on April 22 and culminating in the ceasefire announced on May 10 after Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, has been designated by the state as “Marka-e-Haq”, meaning the “Battle of Truth”.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the national anthem. Smartly turned-out contingents of the three armed forces carried out a ceremonial march past at the monument, drawing applause from attendees.
Patriotic songs were also performed during the event, creating an emotionally charged atmosphere as participants commemorated what officials described as a defining chapter in Pakistan’s recent history.
A fly-past by military aircraft had also been scheduled as part of the ceremony’s proceedings. However, organisers later confirmed that it was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions in the federal capital.
Large screens and ceremonial lighting were arranged around the Pakistan Monument, while national flags and symbolic displays reflecting the armed forces’ role during the conflict formed part of the venue’s decorations.
State media coverage showed senior leadership interacting with military personnel and guests during the event, while footage from the ceremony highlighted the participation of all three armed services.
Security arrangements in and around the Pakistan Monument remained tight throughout the ceremony, with roads leading to the venue monitored by law enforcement personnel. A large number of invited guests, officials and media representatives attended the proceedings.
