ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The US Department of State has announced the phased closure of its Consulate General in Peshawar, transferring responsibility for diplomatic engagement to the US Embassy Islamabad.
According to the statement, diplomatic responsibilities related to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will now be handled by the US Embassy in Islamabad, stating that the move is part of efforts to ensure the safety of diplomatic personnel and improve resource management.
Despite the closure, Washington emphasized that its policy priorities in Pakistan remain unchanged. It said engagement with provincial officials and local communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will continue, with a focus on economic cooperation, regional security, and shared interests.
"While our physical presence in Peshawar is changing, the Administration's policy priorities in Pakistan remain steadfast," it said.

The State Department added that the US Mission will continue its diplomatic operations through its remaining posts in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore, reaffirming its commitment to bilateral relations between the two countries.
