Doctors and paramedical staff from different hospitals in Karachi ransacked the city’s Civic Center in protest against non-payment of salaries and non-regularization of services.Young medical staffers ransacked the Civic Center premises In Gulshan-e-Iqbal town, throwing stones and flowerpots to glass walls, breaking windowpanes and furiously shouting slogans against city government authorities.Only a few police men were present there who unsuccessfully tried to control the situation as scuffles between cops and infuriated medics were witnessed inside the building.Earlier in the day, the doctors and paramedical staff from Karachi’s Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Institute of Heart Diseases and other medical centers staged a five-hour-long sit-in in favour of their demands – release of salaries and regularization of services.A large number of doctors, carrying placards and banners, rallied from Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to Nazimabad-7 roundabout and staged the sit-in, causing severe traffic jam in the area for many hours.The hospital crew members also closed down OPDs in different hospitals, leaving the visiting patients to face several hardships in treatment.
