Summary KP CM Sohail Afridi emphasizes national interest, criticizes federal policies, warns of boycott, and launches public participation in development planning.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi said that his government has prioritized national interest over political gains and demonstrated responsible political conduct.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, he said Pakistan has received international recognition for its role in promoting peace and dialogue, adding that Imran Khan has advocated this policy for the past 24 years.
Afridi stated that Imran Khan has consistently maintained that military operations and wars are not solutions to problems and that dialogue and peace should always be preferred. He added that a scheduled public gathering on April 9 was postponed in the national interest.
The chief minister said his government has risked political capital by participating in federal meetings for the sake of the country, while accusing the current leadership of prioritizing personal interests.
He alleged political victimization of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, including baton charges, shelling, and violations of privacy rights. He also raised concerns over alleged mistreatment of Imran Khan’s family members and restrictions on meetings with his wife, Bushra Bibi.
Afridi expressed serious reservations over delays in court hearings and obstacles in ensuring justice, warning that continued discriminatory treatment could lead to the end of all political compromise and possible non-cooperation with the federal government.
He said the annual development program for fiscal year 2026–27 is in its final stages, with comprehensive planning underway. He emphasized public participation in development planning, calling it a key priority of his government.
The chief minister announced that citizens will be invited to submit suggestions on roads, tube wells, hospitals, and other basic facilities through digital platforms. A public feedback portal will remain open from May 4 to May 8.
He added that public input will be incorporated into the annual development program to ensure effective implementation.
