LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab Assembly has approved amendments to reduce traffic fines across the province, offering relief to motorists. The revised law will come into effect after final approval by the Governor of Punjab.

The Provincial Motor Vehicles (Fourth Amendment) Ordinance 2025 was passed by a majority vote, following earlier approval by the standing committee on interior.

Under the new amendments, fines for motorcycles have been reduced, with some penalties lowered from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000. The maximum fine for motorcycles will now be capped at Rs2,000.

For rickshaws, fines for certain violations have been reduced from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000, while serious violations will carry a Rs2,000 penalty.

Fines for cars and jeeps for minor violations have been reduced from Rs5,000 to Rs2,000, while penalties for serious traffic violations will remain at Rs5,000.

The law maintains existing fines for overspeeding across motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars. For vehicles with engine capacity above 2000cc and other luxury vehicles, fines have been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000, with a minimum penalty of Rs2,000.

Similarly, fines for Mazda trucks, coasters, and light passenger vans have been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs7,000. Maximum fines for heavy vehicles, including buses and trucks, have also been cut from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000.
