LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that making the earth green is the biggest tool to combat climate change.

In her special message on Earth Day, she emphasized collective efforts for environmental protection, environmental improvement, and reducing the impacts of climate change.

She said that making the earth greener is the strongest measure against climate change, while every individual should adopt tree plantation along with avoiding the use of plastic.

The Chief Minister directed all provincial ministers to carry out plantation activities and launch public awareness campaigns for environmental protection.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the importance of forest protection, reduction in carbon emissions, and promotion of a green economy. She said that individuals and organizations working for environmental protection and harmony with nature deserve appreciation.

She added that the earth is not only for the present generation but also an trust for future generations, therefore everyone must work together to protect natural resources and trees.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab has adopted a plastic zero-waste policy and established the first “Smart Environment Force” for environmental protection. She further stated that Earth Day serves as a reminder to raise awareness about environmental challenges.

She stressed that controlling pollution, conserving natural resources, reducing the effects of climate change, and improving environmental health are essential needs of the time. She added that efforts must be made to leave a healthy and green earth for future generations.

Maryam Nawaz also said that work has started on a 10-year Climate Change Action Plan, while various mega projects for environmental improvement are also underway.
