Summary Rawalpindi authorities have imposed sweeping security measures, including transport shutdowns and market closures, following heightened diplomatic activity in Islamabad.

RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Heightened diplomatic activity in the federal capital of Pakistan has prompted the Rawalpindi district administration to finalise an extensive security plan, with sweeping restrictions coming into force from midnight.

A high-level meeting was held at the CPO Office under the chairmanship of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Khalid Hamdani. The session was attended by senior police officials from across the division, including all Station House Officers (SHOs), who reviewed and approved the operational security arrangements. Authorities confirmed that the security plan will be implemented from 12:00 am.

According to official sources, strict security protocols will be enforced at all entry points of Rawalpindi, where Category A checkpoints will be established. No individual will be allowed to enter the city without undergoing thorough search procedures and presenting valid identification, as part of tightened screening measures designed to monitor movement in and out of the district.

As part of the comprehensive restrictions, public transport within Rawalpindi city will remain completely suspended. All intercity transport terminals and bus stands will also be closed to passengers, effectively halting scheduled travel operations. In addition, the movement of heavy traffic will be strictly prohibited within city limits.

The measures extend further to commercial activity, with all major and minor markets ordered to shut down during the enforcement period. Petrol pumps across the city will also cease operations from midnight, contributing to the broader restriction on mobility and public movement.

Authorities have indicated that these steps are part of a coordinated security response linked to ongoing diplomatic engagements in Islamabad, with law enforcement agencies placed on heightened alert across key locations in the region.

The security plan encompasses multiple layers of surveillance and enforcement, with police personnel deployed at strategic points to ensure compliance with the directives as the capital region enters a phase of intensified monitoring and control.
