ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former ambassador Masood Khalid on Sunday said that in the current situation, the issue of the Strait of Hormuz is more important than the nuclear issue.
Speaking to Dunya News, Masood Khalid said that no final outcome of the negotiations has apparently emerged, though the US Vice President has said that discussions have taken place on many issues.
He added that the Iranian delegation also stated that consultations have been held on certain issues, and that the ceasefire will remain in place until April 20. He was of the view that both countries should avoid further worsening the situation.
The former ambassador said that both countries should now move toward improving the situation. He said that bringing both parties to the negotiating table was a major success for Pakistan, and emphasized that at this time, the issue of the Strait of Hormuz is more important than the nuclear issue.
Masood Khalid further said that due to the war, global economic conditions are deteriorating. Oil supply to Japan had been disrupted, and the agreements reached during negotiations should be used as a basis to move forward.
