Punjab medical colleges seek extension to fill MBBS seats

(Web Desk) - Private medical college principals in Punjab have formally requested regulators to extend the deadline for filling vacant MBBS seats to February 28.

The move comes as several institutions report unfilled seats even after the previous February 13 cutoff.

During a consultative session at the University of Health Sciences, chaired by Ahsan Waheed Rathore, college representatives reviewed the current admissions status and concerns raised by applicants. They agreed that any student withdrawing admission by March 31 will receive a full fee refund.

The meeting highlighted ongoing gaps in MBBS seat allocations and aimed to ensure that all vacant positions are filled efficiently. Colleges decided to forward a formal proposal to the Provincial Admission Committee for approval.

If granted, the extension will allow institutions to complete admissions between February 24 and February 28. Officials emphasized no further extensions will be sought beyond this period.

Transfer and refund processes were also clarified. Students wishing to move to another college must obtain a no objection certificate (NOC) from their current institution, and colleges have been instructed not to delay issuance of these certificates until February 24.

Those withdrawing entirely will be refunded in full, ensuring transparency and fairness in the admissions process.

The proposed deadline extension aligns with the recently revised Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) admissions schedule, ensuring regulatory compliance and smooth completion of MBBS enrollments across Punjab.

College officials stated that the priority remains to fill all vacant seats promptly while protecting students’ rights regarding transfers and fee refunds.
