Summary World Health Organization issued instructions to ban use of Isotab tablet by cardiac patients.
The World Health Organization (WHO) instructed to stop the use of Isotab tablets manufactured by Efroze Pharmaceuticals based in Karachi.The WHO issued the instructions after a report received by Punjab Government from a London lab which tested Isotab samples and declared it toxic.A laboratory in London Tuesday declared isotab, the cardiac drugs, as contaminated with an anti-malarial, which caused the deaths of more than hundred patients in Lahore.According to details, the samples of Isotab (tablet) were sent to a drug testing lab in London, which declared Isotab substandard and injurious to health. The report said that some Isotab substances cause bone marrow, depression and deficiency of platelets.The lab report revealed that Isotab samples are heavily contaminated with Pyrimethamine, a commonly used anti-malarial. Experts believed that Pyrimethamine is attributed to those deadly reactions, which continue to kill cardiac patients using the contaminated drugs.
