KARACHI () Web Desk) – Education authorities in Sindh have announced new dates for matriculation and intermediate annual examinations across the province, including Karachi, while putting the uniform examination syllabus on hold for now.

The decision was taken during a Sindh Education Department Steering Committee meeting chaired by Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah on Thursday.

According to the approved schedule, matric exams for classes 9 and 10 will begin on March 31 after Eid holidays. Intermediate annual examinations will start on April 15, with a gap of about 15 days between the two exam phases.

The committee also approved the start of the new academic session 2026-27 from April 1. Officials decided that matric results will be announced on June 1, while intermediate results are expected by June 15.

In another key decision, authorities paused implementation of the newly introduced uniform examination syllabus in Sindh. Officials said the syllabus will now be implemented from the 2027 annual examinations for classes 9 and 10. In simple words, the plan has been put on the back burner for now.

The committee kept summer and winter vacation schedules unchanged. Summer holidays will be observed from June 1 to July 31, while winter holidays will remain from December 22 to December 31.

During the meeting, representatives of Cambridge schools opposed any proposed changes to winter holidays, saying their academic calendar follows international schedules. After discussion, the matter was dropped to avoid rocking the boat.

Officials noted that winter intensity in Sindh, including Karachi, usually peaks in January, based on meteorological data. Earlier this year, education authorities had already adjusted school timings due to cold weather conditions.
