Summary The SC has decided to form a larger bench regarding registration of new FIR of BB murder case.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued notices to 12 people including Babar Awan, Rehman Malik, Pervez Elahi and Pervez Musharraf in the petition which seeks lodging a new FIR in Benazir Bhutto assassination case.An SC bench headed by Chief Justice Itikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the petition filed by Chaudhry Aslam, former protocol officer of Benazir Bhutto.The names of the people whom the petitioner mentioned for registration also include former DG IB Ijaz Shah, former interior secretary Kamal Shah, former interior minster Hamid Nawaz, Brigadier (r) Javed Iqbal Cheema, former DCO Rawalpindi Irfan Elahi, police officers including Saud Aziz, Yasin Farooq and Khurram Shahzad.The CJ sought court record into BB murder case and ruled that a larger bench of the apex court would take up the petition on new FIR.The chief justice asked Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq to watch video clips and pieces of newspapers featuring the president’s speech of Garhi Khuda Bux.He said BB was not only a chairperson of a political party instead she was a two-time prime minister of the country. “Why government is not giving priority to such a serious case” he said.The CJ said cases against former police officers and ex president had been heard in courts. Justice Tariq Pervez asked whether the government was satisfied with the investigation into BB murder case.Chief Justice Justice Chaudhry also remarked that there was no independent investigation agency in the country.The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
