At least 31 dead, 169 injured in suicide blast at Islamabad mosque

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – At least 31 people were killed and 169 others were injured in a suicide blast at a mosque in Tarlai area of Islamabad on Friday, said Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon.

The bomber exploded himself at the entry gate of an Imambargah during Friday prayers when an attempt was made to stop him.

Police and security officials cordoned off the area to collect evidence while injured are being shifted to hospitals.

Sources said an emergency has been declared at PIMS and other hospitals.

State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry has reached PIMS hospital to meet the injured persons.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the suicide blast and expressed sorrow over deaths.

Federal Minister Parliamentry Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has strongly condemned the tragic explosion that took place in the Tarlai area of Islamabad.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives in this cowardly act. My heartfelt condolences and sympathy go out to the families of the martyrs, and I pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” he wrote on X.

“Incidents of terrorism like this cannot dampen the morale of our nation. It is crucial that we all stand united for peace, tolerance, and stability, and express our full solidarity with law enforcement agencies. May Allah protect our country from all forms of violence and terrorism.”

Senator Allama Raja Nasir also condemned the incident. “I am deeply saddened and distressed by the tragic explosion at Masjid Khadija Al-Kubra in the Tarlai area of Islamabad, which resulted in the martyrdom of innocent worshippers. This terrorist attack in the federal capital not only highlights a severe failure in ensuring the safety of human lives but also raises serious questions about the performance of the administration and law enforcement agencies”.

“I strongly condemn this barbaric and cowardly attack in the harshest terms, and I offer my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs. I also pray for the swift

recovery of the injured. Targeting places of worship is a direct assault on humanity, religion, and societal values, which can never be tolerated”.
“I urge the conscious and brave youth of Islamabad to step forward in this critical moment and demonstrate their commitment to humanity.”
