LONDON (Web Desk) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain was shifted to a hospital in London late Sunday after his condition worsened, the party confirmed.
According to a statement issued by MQM on Sunday night, physicians carried out an initial assessment of Hussain’s health and decided to admit him for further medical care.
Hussain, who has been residing in the UK since 1992 after going into self-imposed exile, later acquired British citizenship. Despite living abroad, he remained politically active for years, frequently addressing supporters in Karachi through televised and audio messages from London.
The party said Hussain was taken to hospital on Sunday evening due to poor health, where doctors, following a preliminary examination, admitted him for treatment. Medical staff reportedly administered injections and placed him on intravenous fluids due to extreme physical weakness.

A comprehensive medical evaluation is scheduled to be conducted on Monday, the statement added.
In a follow-up message shared on Monday, MQM said doctors had also carried out a blood transfusion overnight on medical advice.
Separately, senior MQM leader based in London, Mustafa Azizabadi, said Hussain’s illness stemmed from intense mental pressure and prolonged involvement in party affairs, often working continuously for 18 to 20 hours a day.
This is not the first time the MQM founder has faced health issues in recent years. In 2025, he was hospitalised twice within a month. He was first admitted on July 10 due to serious illness and discharged on July 23 after extensive tests and multiple blood transfusions.
He was hospitalised again on August 8 but released the following day after doctors diagnosed him with a severe flu and chest infection.
