SHC delays the hearing on Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri's contempt petition regarding his degree issue until after the winter break, with Karachi University officials submitting affidavits to the court.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday postponed the hearing on the contempt of court petition related to the degree issue of former judge Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri until after the winter holidays.
The contempt petition has been filed against Karachi University Vice Chancellor Professor Khalid Mehmood Iraqi and Registrar Professor Imran Ahmed Siddiqui. Both officials have submitted affidavits to the court.
The registrar argued the Islamabad High Court had already delivered a final ruling on the degree matter. After the contempt petition was filed, the court issued its decision, rendering the contempt petition ineffective, and it should be dismissed.
The registrar also stated that no further action had been taken following the Sindh High Court’s decision on October 3. Karachi University had not issued any orders or notifications in accordance with the court's directives.
The IHC had requested Karachi University’s records through the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The vice chancellor of Karachi University stated that the university had presented the required records to the court as per the IHC's instructions, without any alterations.
During the proceedings, the counsel for the petitioner, Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, requested that the case be heard promptly due to its urgent nature.
However, Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed explained that this bench's session was the last for the day and that the case would be heard after the winter break according to the roster.
The court extended the injunction until the next hearing and postponed the contempt petition hearing until after the winter holidays.
