ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has officially announced the schedule for winter vacations in the federal capital’s district courts.
The notification was issued by Registrar Mohammad Yar Wulana following the formal approval of Chief Justice, marking the beginning of the annual winter break for the judiciary.
According to the notification, all district courts in Islamabad will observe winter holidays from January 1 to January 8, 2026. Regular court operations will resume on January 9, 2026.
Despite the holidays, the notification clarifies that court offices will remain open throughout the vacation period. Officials will continue to perform necessary administrative duties, ensuring the smooth functioning of essential judicial processes.
The IHC has also directed that urgent cases and pre-scheduled matters will continue to be heard during the holidays. Duty judges will be assigned to oversee these cases, ensuring that litigants requiring immediate relief are not affected by the break.
The announcement comes as winter intensifies across the region, leading to similar holiday schedules in educational institutions and public offices. The judiciary’s decision aims to accommodate the seasonal conditions while maintaining accessibility for urgent legal needs.
Parents, lawyers, and litigants have welcomed the clarity provided through the early notification, noting that it will help them plan their schedules accordingly. With district courts set to reopen on January 9, regular case hearings and judicial activities will resume as per routine.
The Islamabad High Court emphasized that the winter break is part of the standard judicial calendar and is implemented every year to ensure administrative efficiency and provide seasonal respite to court staff.
